The Engineering Department is responsible for establishing new computer systems and maintaining/upgrading the current computer systems for the Muncie Sanitary District. This also includes arial and GIS systems.
The engineering department also issues permits for sanitary sewers, tap permits for residential and commercial properties for both the City of Muncie and the Muncie Sanitary District.
The Engineering Department is also responsible for the
following:
Sanitary Sewer Construction Revolving Loan:
Residents may petition the Board of Sanitary Commissioners for general
infrastructure improvements to sanitary sewers. Cost-sharing occurs on
most projects; property owners pay up to $3,500 of the project cost, and
the district pays the remainder. The petition is generally coordinated
through the neighborhood association. Petitions are available at the MSD
Engineering Office, 5120 W. Kilgore Avenue.
If the petitioned project is deemed necessary and city funding is available, it is engineered and a public hearing is held. Assessments are levied once the work is completed.
Catch Basins/Inlets:
Catch basin/inlet hazards (i.e., grate missing, loose, too high/low) may
be reported to the MSD Engineering Department between the hours of 8 am
and 4 pm, Monday through Friday, or on the emergency line after 4 pm anytime.
An investigator is on-call 24 hours a day. To report an emergency involving
conditions that may be hazardous, call (765) 747-4852.
An initial investigation is done to determine if catch basin/inlet is city or private responsibility. A barricade is placed over catch basin/inlet for safety. Construction crew is scheduled to replace/repair catch basin/inlet.
Location of Sewers:
Citizens wishing to locate service piping may contact the Muncie Sanitary
District Engineering office at 747-4879, Monday through Friday, 7 am - 3 pm
