Newspapers - Recycling 1 ton saves 17 trees, 7,000 gallons of water, and 4,100 kw of energy (Enough to power a home for 6 months)Will take all newsprint and whatever comes with your daily newspapers.
Magazines - Books -PaperWill take all magazines, phone books, soft and hard-bound books, office paper and envelopes, receipts, etc.
Corrugated and Paper Board PackagingWill take all cardboard and paper board packaging including cereal, pizza, and gift boxes - appliance-type boxes and shipping cartons. Flatten to save space. Greasy pizza box inserts; used paper plates; paper towels and napkins.
Aluminum - Recycling 1 ton of aluminum saves 95% of the energy and the imported ore needed to produce new aluminum from raw materials.Will take all aluminum -- beverage and food cans, pie plates, foil, etc. Rinse before recycling.

Aluminum siding and other large items can be taken directly to the Transfer Station of East Centennial.
Glass - Recycling 1 ton of glass saves over 9 gallons of fuel oil, reduces water by 50%, mining waste by 79%, pollutants by 14% -- plus, silica sand, soda ash, and limestone. Will take all clear, brown, and green glass; beer and wine bottles; all sizes of glass food containers, etc. Rinse before recycling.

Remove metal lids.
Mirrors, ceramic mugs, plates, crystal, light bulbs, window glass, etc.

These materials will still be taken from Muncie's solid waste stream and crushed and used for other useful purposes.
Plastic Bottles & Jugs - Can be recycled into clothes, paint brushes, park benches, flower pots, fiber for pillows, garbage cans, etc.Nos. 1 & 2 Plastic ONLY. No plastic packaging material. Containers -- Soda, juice, water bottles, milk jugs; bleach, detergent and dish washing liquid containers, etc. Rinse before recycling.

Keep plastic lids attached to plastic bottle. Remove metal lids.
PVC pipe -- oil, antifreeze, pesticides, herbicides, and other hazardous waste containers.

No. 3,4,5, 6/Styrofoam containers and materials.

Plastic bags, including shopping bags, plastic cereal bags, bread bags, Ziplock bags, etc.

Disposable coffee cups.

K-Cups.
Tin & Steel Products - Recycling a ton of steel saves 10 million BTU's of energy, 2,500 lbs. iron ore, 1,000 lbs. coal, 40 lbs. of limestone.Soup, coffee, fruit and vegetable cans, aerosol cans, empty paint cans, etc. Rinse before recycling.

Large tin and steel materials can be taken directly to the Transfer Station on East Centennial Avenue.
Partially filled paint, solvent, and oil cans; pesticides, herbicides, and other hazardous waste containers; needles, etc.

Bring your Household Hazardous Waste, Used Tires, and Electronics to East Central Recycling. Hours are Monday- Friday 8a- 5p and Saturday 8a-Noon.
