Residential Recycling Update for Spring 2023!
Starting in the spring of 2023, we are going to begin transitioning our recycling program to a bagless co-mingled single-stream program eliminating the use of blue recycling bags. The new program will require residents to opt-in to participate by taking a recycling pledge and signing up to receive one 96-gallon blue recycling toter. This is a signup to receive updates and notifications via email about the new program. The signup for the recycling toter will come at a later date to be announced. Please enter your email address, name, and zip code to signup for our mailing list.
1. A successful recycling program depends on you.
Save your recyclables and place all aluminum and steel cans, glass containers, plastics #1-2 (No plastic 3-7, PS 6, Styrofoam, plastic bags, or k-cups), paper, cardboard, and magazines in the blue recycling bags. It is best to empty each item and rinse it clean before placing it in the bag.
Put garbage and other waste in solid colored bags and place both bags in your ‘toter’ and at your curb on your normal collection day.
2. Bags are unloaded and sorted at the Recycling Center.
3. Recyclables are then baled and shipped to area manufacturers for processing into new products.
Thanks to all the CVS Pharmacies, Payless Supermarkets, the Muncie Mall, libraries, and others for making our free blue recycling bags easy for you to pick up and use!
Note: You can take all household hazardous waste to East Central Recycling daily during normal business hours: 8:00am-5:00 pm. Saturdays: 8:00am-12p. Entrance on Centennial Avenue.
