Do I absolutely have to recycle?

Recycling is not mandatory at this time, but we strongly encourage it.

Do I have to sort my recyclables?

No you don't. All co-mingled recyclables can go into the blue bags. If you would like to separate your recyclables, that is fine. You may obtain additional bags from East Central Recycling.

How can I dispose of chemicals?

Since May of 2001 the Muncie Sanitary District has offered a year round Household Hazardous Waste program to all residents of Muncie and Delaware County.

If I live in an apartment complex or trailer park do I get coupons?
You may call 747-4894 to have coupons mailed. However, we cannot pick up your blue bags if you are not serviced by a sanitation route. You are still welcomed to recycle by dropping your materials off at East Central Recycling at 701 East Centennial Avenue.

You may get additional coupons by calling The Muncie Sanitary District at 747-4894.

If I live outside the Sanitary District can I recycle?

Yes you can. Residents can bring their recyclables to East Central Recycling, 701 East Centennial Avenue, at no charge.

Aren't I supposed to receive blue bag coupons in the mail?

Sure - If you are in the Muncie Sanitary District and have normal trash pickup, please call 747-4894 and we will send you coupons.
